BMC Reveal Alpenchallenge AMP Cross: E-Cyclo or E-Cross?

THE FUTURE IS NOW. BUT what should we call it? e-cross or e-cyclo?

UPDATE: Two more variants have been revealed for the Alpenchallenge AMP; Sport and City. Sport being a more road oriented set up whilst the City is aimed at commuters or for daily trekking. Both will come with the LTD and One build like the Alpenchallenge AMP Cross which sees the LTD using the top of the line Shimano E8000 system compared to the E6100 used on the One. BMC have confirmed an Australian release later this year.

BMC Switzerland have added another model to their eBike lineup. This time around, they welcome an electric cyclocross bike in two builds; the LTD and One. Both feature the same carbon frame and forks intended for cyclocross and gravel use.

The eBike is one of the first to break into the cyclocross and gravel industry with most other brands testing the waters with an eMTB or commuter (and also road bikes recently). Building off their Alpenchallenge, the electric brother features the Shimano Steps system with the battery seamlessly fitted to the seat tube rather than the rear rack or downtube like most other eBikes.

The ‘One’ is the entry level build which features the Shimano E6100 system whereas the high-end LTD variant is sporting the Shimano E8000 motor. In terms of groupset build, the LTD will set you up with the top of the line Shimano XT Di2 electronic system and what looks to be Ultegra disc brakes. The specifications listed on BMC’s website are believed to be vague, but from the images we can gather that it’ll most likely be Ultegra or Dura-Ace disc brakes whilst the would use something similar a grade below.

Release details have not been revealed. Expect more details to come. For more information and details, check out BMC’s website.
