SRAM NX Eagle Revealed: eMTB Ready

the most affordable 12-speed drivetrain available

Just a couple weeks after Shimano revealed their new XTR M9100 drivetrain, SRAM have shown off their latest addition to the Eagle family. Undoubtedly the most affordable 12-speed option to date, the NX shares technology with the XX1, X01 and GX Eagle ecosystem. This allows for 100% compatibility between the Eagle drivetrains, but also previous 9 and 10-speed freewheel bodies unlike the higher Eagle groups that require an XD freewheel.

The XX1, X01 and GX Eagle cassette offer 500% range, however the NX Eagle PG-1230 cassette falls short and uses a 11t smallest cog (whilst keeping the 50t sprocket) offering a 454.5% range.

To keep costs down, the cassette uses steel for it’s 50t sprocket whilst the rest use aluminium. This obviously increases the weight, which multiple people have said is the only downside of this groupset.

SRAM have claimed that the PG-1230 is also eMTB ready, unlike the other Eagle cassettes. It’s been designed to handle the increased torque and power from the motors, and thus increase it’s durability. It’ll be likely we see this group offered on a lot of eMTB’s since the EX1 is quite pricey and Shimano don’t offer anything yet.
